about

Along the same lines of his last release ‘Now apocalypse', Alex again delivers his tragic pop-ambient signature with the new single ‘Terrible seasons of youth’. A powerful track drenched in coming-of-age ideals echoed throughout experimental textures and overtones. The track is part of a multimedia art project of the same name, which intends to reflect the beauty and eeriness of childhood.

The cover, designed and photographed by Alex, is taken from his diptych of the same name, inspired by teenage collages and VHS nostalgia. Additional graphic design was made by visual artist Sara Blue.

'The youth collage is a place for expression, a tapestry of memories and symbols of personal identification. Growing up, I would rediscover the ever-changing bedroom walls of my friends, covered in cut out magazine pages and endless photo stacks of precious childhood moments.

In ‘Terrible seasons of youth’, a collage of images and sounds taken from my own childhood videos and reclaimed internet footage, I explore the idea of youth in America. As a child of the 90’s and early 00’s, growing up between the USA and Europe, I was fed in both worlds the same American imagery brought to us on TV. By collecting recurring symbols and esthetics of American cultural youth values, I paint a cliché of such a childhood, with its liminality, violence and playfulness, its desires and longing. A cliché which, thanks to popular visual media and sound & video technology, is already part of our knowledge, ingrained in our minds and memories.

Through my project, I underline youth as a transitional period. The unintentional eeriness and nostalgic effects of these images work as a reflection of how, through the perspective of adulthood, we perceive youth– its uncanniness, fugacity and fragile beauty.'
